Abstrak

The utilization of cattle manure (cow dung) waste in Rek Kerrek Village, Palengaan District, Pamekasan Regency, Madura, has not been optimized, resulting in potential environmental pollution. This community service program aimed to empower the Jaya Abadi Livestock Farmer Group through the implementation of Sistema.bio biodigester technology and biogas purification to produce renewable energy in the form of biogas and organic fertilizer (bio-slurry). The program adopted the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, consisting of problem identification, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), technology implementation, technical training, mentoring, and evaluation. The applied technology included the installation of a Sistema.bio biodigester and a two-stage biogas purification unit utilizing activated carbon and zeolite (8 × 30 mesh) as adsorption media for carbon dioxide (CO₂) and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) removal. The implementation of these technologies enhanced the beneficiaries’ production capacity by converting livestock manure into biogas as a substitute for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for household cooking and bio-slurry as an organic fertilizer. Furthermore, the program strengthened the community’s managerial capacity through improved technical competencies and effective management of biogas and bio-slurry utilization. The initial impacts included reduced household energy expenditure, improved environmental quality through better livestock waste management, and increased community awareness of sustainable livestock waste utilization. Overall, the program successfully promoted community-based energy self-sufficiency through biogas technology and demonstrates strong potential for replication in other rural areas with similar socio-environmental characteristics.
