PUBLICATION ETHICS
Jurnal Sains dan Teknologi, abbreviated as INSOLOGI, is a peer reviewed, open access journal in the fields of science and technology, published by Yayasan Literasi Sains Indonesia. This statement on publication ethics applies to all parties that are involved in the publication of the journal: the authors, the Editor in Chief, the Editorial Board, the peer reviewers, and the publisher.
The journal follows the standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), namely the earlier Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the current Core Practices of COPE.
Publication Ethics
1. Ethical Guideline for Journal Publication
The publication of an article in a peer reviewed journal supports a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It reflects the quality of the work of the authors and of the institutions that support them. Peer reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree on the standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the authors, the editors, the reviewers, and the publisher.
The publisher keeps advertising and commercial revenue out of editorial decisions, and it supports communication with other journals and publishers where this is useful.
2. Duties of Authors
| Topic | Duty of the authors |
|---|---|
| Reporting standards | Authors of original research must report their work honestly and discuss its significance objectively. The data must be represented accurately, and the paper must contain enough detail and references for others to replicate the work. The fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation of data is unethical, and fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are unacceptable. |
| Data access and retention | Authors may be asked to provide the raw data of their study and should share it where practicable, in line with the Data Sharing Policy. They should keep the data for a reasonable period after publication and protect the confidentiality of the data of participants. |
| Originality and plagiarism | Authors must submit only entirely original work. Work and words of others must be cited or quoted properly, and the exact wording of others is placed within quotation marks. Plagiarism in all its forms, including incorrect or misattributed citations, is unacceptable. See the Plagiarism Policy. |
| Multiple, redundant, or concurrent publication | Authors must not publish essentially the same research in more than one journal, and they must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. |
| Acknowledgment of sources | The work of others must always be acknowledged. Authors should cite the publications that have influenced the work that is reported. |
| Authorship of the paper | Authorship is limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the work. The corresponding author must make sure that all the appropriate coauthors are included, that no inappropriate coauthors are included, and that all coauthors have approved the final version. See Authorship and Contributorship. |
| Hazards | If the work involves chemicals, procedures, or equipment that have unusual hazards inherent in their use, the authors must identify these clearly in the manuscript. |
| Research involving human or animal subjects | Research with human participants requires permission and informed consent, and the identity of the participants must be protected. Consent from a parent or guardian is required for minors. Research with human or animal subjects must comply with the relevant laws and institutional guidelines. The Research Methodology section must describe how permission and consent were obtained. |
| Disclosure and conflicts of interest | Authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be seen as influencing the results or the interpretation of the manuscript, and all sources of financial support for the work. See Conflicts of Interest. |
| Use of generative AI tools | Authors must follow the Generative AI Policies. AI systems cannot be listed as authors. |
| Fundamental errors in published works | When authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their own published work, they must promptly notify the editor or the publisher and cooperate to retract or correct the paper. |
| Withdrawal of a manuscript | Authors cannot withdraw a manuscript after it has been submitted. |
3. Duties of Editors
| Topic | Duty of the editors |
|---|---|
| Publication decisions | The editors decide which of the submitted articles are published. The decision is based on the validity of the work and its importance to researchers and readers, and it is guided by the policies of the journal and by legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The editors may confer with other editors or reviewers in making the decision. |
| Guidelines and the review process | The editors make the guidelines of the journal easy to find, run a fair, transparent, and objective review, and assign suitable reviewers who have no conflict of interest. They also check the manuscripts for originality. See the Peer Review Process. |
| Fair play | The editors evaluate manuscripts only on their intellectual content, without regard to the sex, gender, race, religion, or citizenship of the authors. |
| Confidentiality | The editors keep all information about a submitted manuscript confidential. They assess critically any possible breach of data protection or of the confidentiality of patients, and they require properly informed consent for the research that is presented and, where applicable, consent for its publication. |
| Disclosure and conflicts of interest | The editors must not use unpublished material from a submitted manuscript in their own research without the written consent of the author. They must not consider manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest, and they must disclose such conflicts. |
4. Duties of Reviewers
| Topic | Duty of the reviewers |
|---|---|
| Contribution to editorial decisions | Peer review helps the editors to make decisions, and through editorial communication it helps the authors to improve their papers. The review process is described on the Peer Review Process page. |
| Promptness | A reviewer who does not feel qualified to review a manuscript, or who knows that a prompt review is not possible, should notify the editor and decline. Reviewers should complete the review within the time that was agreed, and notify the editor promptly if they cannot meet it. |
| Confidentiality | Manuscripts received for review are treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others unless the editor has authorized it. |
| Standards of objectivity | Reviews must be objective, honest, independent, and constructive. Personal criticism of the authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should support their views with clear arguments and distinguish the changes that are essential from those that are optional. |
| Acknowledgment of sources | Reviewers should check that the authors have cited all the sources of their data, and they should point out relevant published work that has not been cited. Any substantial similarity or overlap with other known work should be brought to the attention of the editor. Reviewers who have ethical concerns or suspect misconduct should report them to the journal and should not investigate on their own. |
| Disclosure and conflicts of interest | Privileged information obtained through the review must be kept confidential and must not be used for personal advantage. Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest. |
