Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a public health problem in endemic areas, and school-aged adolescents can play a role in the eradication of mosquito breeding sites through routine environmental actions. This study analysed the relationship between sex, residential location, access to information, parents’ educational level, and history of dengue infection with mosquito breeding site eradication (PSN) behaviour among students of MTsN 1 Balikpapan. An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted in 2025. The population consisted of 288 eighth-grade students, while the reported analysis included 58 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires. Univariate analysis was used to describe the characteristics of respondents and PSN behaviour, while bivariate analysis used Pearson’s correlation based on the study findings. Most respondents were male (53.4%), lived outside residential complexes (65.5%), obtained information primarily from social media (56.9%), had parents with senior high school education (53.4%), and had previously experienced DHF (53.4%). A total of 60.3% of respondents performed two or fewer PSN actions. All five factors showed significant relationships with PSN behaviour. Parents’ educational level had the strongest correlation, followed by access to information, sex, residential location, and history of DHF.
