Ruang Publik Digital dan Krisis Kepercayaan Politik: Studi Netnografi Atas Tagar #BubarkanDPR di Instagram

Abstract

The political trust crisis in Indonesia has become increasingly evident with the weakening of legislative representation and the growing expression of public discontent in digital spaces. Social media, particularly Instagram, has emerged as an important arena for civil society to voice criticism and foster alternative forms of solidarity. This study examines the dynamics of civil society expression in the digital public sphere by focusing on the use of the hashtag #BubarkanDPR (“Abolish the Parliament”) on Instagram in Indonesia. The rise of this hashtag reflects the deepening political trust crisis, as citizens articulate their dissatisfaction with representative institutions through digital activism. Using a netnographic approach, this research analyzes posts, comments, and user interactions to understand how digital communities construct narratives of protest, share collective grievances, and mobilize symbolic resistance. Data were collected through systematic observation and thematic coding of user-generated content. The findings reveal that #BubarkanDPR functions not only as a protest slogan but also as a space of digital solidarity, where criticism, satire, and demands for accountability converge. Instagram provides citizens with opportunities to bypass formal political channels and amplify voices often marginalized in official discourse. However, the study also identifies several challenges, such as polarization, risks of digital surveillance, and the tendency of online mobilization to remain temporary. These dynamics highlight both the potential and limitations of social media in strengthening civil society, while offering insights into how digital activism is reshaping political participation in contemporary Indonesia.
